Deuel County Commissioner Meeting
March 1, 2010
The Deuel County Commissioners met on the above date with the following officials present: Chairman of the Board Ben Carlson, Commissioner Clint Bailey, Commissioner Larry Kenney, and County Clerk Polly Olson. County Attorney Doug Palik was excused due to a meeting in Scottsbluff. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Reference was made to the Open Meeting Laws posted at the entrance to the meeting room. The agenda was approved motion of Commissioner Carlson, second of Commissioner Kenney. Carlson, aye Bailey, aye, Kenney, aye. The minutes of the February 16, 2010 meeting were approved, with the correction that County Attorney Palik was present when the meeting was called to order, upon motion of Commissioner Bailey, second of Commissioner Carlson. Assessor Jean Timm discussed state regulations pertaining to real property valuations. She also presented the Commercial Reappraisal contract in the amount of $34,450.00 payable in 13 monthly installments of $2,460.00, to STANARD Appraisal Services. Upon motion of Commissioner Carlson, second of Commissioner Kenney the contract was approved. Bailey, aye, Carlson, aye, Kenney, aye. Tentative real property value increases were discussed, mandated by the state to be in compliance with standards.
Leonard Littlejohn of the Deuel County Lodging Tax Committee expressed approval of the appointment of Cindy Williams, who expressed an interest to serve on the Lodging Tax Committee. Upon motion of Commissioner Carlson, second of Commissioner Bailey, Cindy Williams is appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Konni Sauder from this board. Discussion was held regarding the installation of a $200.00 backup battery for the current telephone system. The other alternative would be to run power to the generator to supply the phone system with emergency power in case of an outage. The Commissioners felt it would be more beneficial and cost efficient to have power supplied to the phone system from the generator.
The quarterly safety committee meeting was held with the following present: Kara Essman, Jean Timm, Jeff Ortgies, Keil Velasco and Clint Bailey.
Sheriff Jeff Ortgies met with the board to discuss the operations of his office.
Sue Warner of Blue Cross Blue Shield met with the board to introduce the new representative of our region. Tara Stevenson of Omaha will replace Bill Jorgensen as the representative to Deuel County.
Upon motion of Commissioner Bailey, second of Commissioner Kenney, the resignation of Clint Snell as Noxious Weed Supt. was accepted with regret. Carlson, aye, Bailey, aye, Kenney, aye.
Motion was made by Commissioner Bailey, second of Commissioner Kenney, to approve warrants in the amount of $43,569.82, (Payroll, $18,980.62, Claims, $24,589.20). Carlson, aye, Bailey, aye, Kenney, aye.
